Growing thru Memories

Nostalgia. What does that mean to you? It is defined as a sentimental longing for the past. Most often a time period that is associated with a feeling you are yearning for such as happiness. Nostalgia is also a feeling. It’s when you think of a memory and get that warm and fuzzy feeling inside. During the holiday season many have that yearning for happiness that may not be present at this time due to many depressing events such as losing loved ones, relocating away from your loved ones, lack of finances or something else that may dampen your spirit.

For me this past month I have been just going through the motions of the holidays and haven’t been feeling the excitement I normally feel. As I have gone thorugh my daily responsibilities I have thought about how much has changed in my life. Some of those changes have been good, but some haven’t. However those changes cannot remove that one thing that has kept me going and that’s memories.

I grew up with a family that made the holidays feel so bright and cheery. We decorated, celebrated and enjoyed each other’s company with no worries. It seemed like such a fun and peaceful time that I never wanted to end. I was surrounded by love, support and positivity. It made me believe that I could conquer the world and nothing or no one could stop me. I miss that, but I was blessed by those experiences and it has made me the person I am today.

So if you’re feeling these bahhumbug blues, let nostalgia lead you to that happy place. It can give you the encouragement you need to go on and live your best life. Understand that memories are all we have and if we didn’t so much would be lost.
